生涯にわたるレコード発掘と収集への情熱に根ざしたJames Chopsのセットは、クラシック・ディスコ、ファンク、ネオ・ソウル、オールドスクール・ヒップホップ、ハウス、インディ・ディスコといった、深く多彩な音楽のパレットから構成されており、ベテランのレコード・セレクターならではの直感で巧みに織りなされている。
その多様な影響は、世界中を駆け巡るDJキャリアにも反映されている。
2000年代半ば、インディー・ディスコ、エレクトロクラッシュ、フレンチ・ハウスの全盛期に東京でキャリアをスタートさせ、その後、メルボルンでのインディー・エレクトロニカ・パーティの主催、スウェーデンでの学生向けクラブ・ナイト、ロンドンでのプレイ、そしてドイツでの生活とキット・キャット・クラブをはじめとする会場でのDJ活動へとその活動範囲を広げていった。
2015年からは、法学の勉強に専念するためDJ活動は一時休止した。現在はシドニーを拠点に、弁護士資格を取得し実務に従事する傍ら、定期的なDJ活動やイベント企画に復帰。ザ・アバークロンビー、バーデキン・ホテル、ラッキー・キャット、チン・ア・リングスなどの会場でパーティや出演を行い、DJ向けの12インチ・ヴァイナルに特化したシドニー最新のリテール・レコードショップ プレス・プレイ・レコーズの運営にも携わっている。

Rooted in a lifelong love of digging and collecting, James Chops’ sets pull from a deep and eclectic palette – classic disco, funk, neo soul, old-school hip hop, house, and indie disco – stitched together with the instincts of a seasoned vinyl selector.
His diverse in uences are re ected in a DJ career that has spanned the globe, beginning in Tokyo in the mid-2000s during the height of the indie disco, electroclash, and French house wave, and extending to running indie-electronica parties in Melbourne, student club nights in Sweden, playing in London, and living and DJing in Germany at venues including Kit-Kat Club.
From 2015, DJing took a back seat while he studied law. Now based back down under as an admitted and practising lawyer in Sydney, James has returned to regular DJing and event organising, with parties and appearances at venues including The Abercrombie, Burdekin Hotel, Lucky Cat, and Ching-a-Lings and helps run Press Play Records, Sydney’s newest local record store, focused exclusively on 12” vinyl for DJs
